Volume Egalization & Stereo enhancement

Volume Egalization & Stereo enhancement

-- Stereo Enhancement: to improve the stereo image by pushing the apparent sound source beyond the speakers. -- Life: to recreate the actual sound propagation in a room for a more natural music. -- Dynamic Controller: to keep an almost constant volume; it's a very convenient feature when your play list contains very different kinds of music styles with different audio volume (it works fine with live events and classical music)

Wide & Dynamix - Volume Egalization & Stereo enhancement

Staff review

Some really handy effects

Not a bad filter at all. One of the better ones out there.

The Best Dynamic Processor for Winamp - Free of presets. Easy to use. Without settings and complications. I like this "analog dessigned" plug-in for all music styles. - April 25, 2006 by Niko Constantinidis

Perfetto! - Plug in perfetto! Usa!! - March 1, 2005 by Cristiano DiCarlo

A word from Sli_der - U must use this thing becouse is HOT!!! - July 28, 2003 by Slider Adrian

Dangerous Plugin ! - 1.) It trashed my sound completely. even de- & re-install of winamp (upgrade to 2.91 from 2.76) didn't took that echo/reverb back ! even with my sb mixer i have NO influence on that effekt ! i have to write the author for takin' this registry changes back !!! :-( 2.) it's unhandable - the knobs do what they want - the effekt comes about 10 seconds LATER !!! it smashed nearly my speakers with a HARD distortion :-((( (system: 1,2 GHz Athlon with creative sb live!) 3.) on a lcd flatscreen you CANNOT READ whats written downwards the knobs - you have to guess what they do ... :-((( - July 15, 2003 by Jeff GoldBerg

Love the retro look! - Rotary dials were always better than sliders. I downloaded this and was very impressed with the "live" feel and the high end boost. An "oldie" but a goodie! - July 7, 2003 by DJ Drugless

The Best Plug In - I just can say this: Great Job! This works very good with any kind of music, People that don't like analogic knobs and vumeters may now know how good it feels to have the control of a knob in their fingers. This plug in is the best i have ever tried for everything. Works good for compression-expansion features giving to music the best compensation even for live events. I still wonder if is there a way to make it standalone, i mean: i use other software to mix the music and would be great to have this Wide and Dynamix present during the mix ;) is there a newest version? Hey! Thomas! good job, man! - July 2, 2003 by Geppetto El Magnifico

Light on the Docs... so you can slam it down fast! - BEST Stereo Widener/Compressor/Limiter I've seen yet!! It's like they shoved a great big professional broadcast/pa system right in your computer, with all the benefits without the cost. Sure it doesn't have a help file, manual, or any instructions whatsoever - but it doesn't need to! Its sole task is to dynamically keep the output level constant, while providing stereo widening. The end result is sound that is clear, punchy, and stereo-enhanced. The first 2 knobs provide ?Wide? and ?Life? effects which both extend the maximum dynamic range of the output level. ?Life? can sound either good or bad depending on the venue and soundcard etc, so it can be disabled only by turning it to the lowest setting (CCW). The ?Dynamic? knobs are where this plug-in really shines, once you figure out what they do! The UP and DOWN knobs refer to it?s two functions ? Amplifying (up) and Limiting (down). When you turn the knobs, it alters the speed in which the volume is compressed or amplified - fully left (counter-clock-wise) means gain or clipping is applied almost instantly, so the sound doesn?t have enough time to get too loud or quiet, but still allows normal volume changes in music or speech, and is a perfect FM Radio Broadcast set up. Turning the UP and DOWN knobs clock-wise slows down the time it takes to change the volume, which is ideal for voice tracks or live events. Finally set the desired volume with the ?Volume? knob on the right, half way seems to be fine. The plug-in constantly monitors and adjusts the volume accordingly so music of different audio levels is eliminated. I highly recommend running with SqrSoft Advanced Crossfading, for that seamless broadcast-quality sound. - March 31, 2003 by Simon Peel

A little incomplete .. - This thing is great for MP3s .. but would be perfect if it had WMA support .. It's been my default plugin for over a year now .. but now that I'm converting my music to WMA I find it lacking .. perhaps an update might solve the problem ? - October 29, 2002 by Dark Knight

Almost as good as tomsteady - Yep the volume (compressor or dynamix or wtevr) compensation is great, but you can't bypass (or I havn't found out how) the "life" setting which adds odd hi midrange frequencies that are really unwanted. just because of that I'll keep on using trusty TOMSTEADY. - September 29, 2002 by Carlos Rodriguez

A classic - I like the sound of it. It reminds me of old valve compressors. I use it with all kind of music. I under stand that the author wanted to design a classy inter face without the ugly buttons that plague windows. And being proud of his accomplishment(smooth sound) and in terface he wanted everybody to see it...all the time! I appreciate the time and effort you've put into that sophisfiticated plugin. How about a VST plugin? Thank you Thomas. - July 7, 2002 by Dany McFadden

Wey...... - What can you say it really works fine and got the sound level pumped up damn good. - May 5, 2002 by Hokan Halvarsson

It needs other USER INTERFACE! - ??! Hey man good Plug-In... But you need to make the USER INTERFACE BETTER, The "rueditas" sucks, use a slider or other thing... - April 4, 2002 by Jafo C-Null

ALT-F4 closes the GUI!! - Sound is one of the nicest I've tried. The lack of any documentation at all really sucks. The very annoying GUI can be closed by pressing ALT-F4 (better than the dumb minimized bar - get that by double clicking anywhere in the GUI), but the fact that it pops up every time I start winamp might be enough for me to stop using it. Totally lame. Why can't the author rely only on the good sound results to build a good reputation and spare us the popup-esque tactics??? I'd give it more stars... - March 6, 2002 by p dontthink

Definitely Good, but... - For overall volume equalization it's simple and very effective, on the other hand if you use it with mp3's that contain varying dynamics and loudnesses (especially older music, if not normalized) the attack and release of the limiter/compressor should be manually adjustable, at least a few turns. And that's the only thing it lacks. I use it! - February 19, 2002 by Toni Valencak

pretty cool - Pretty coll plugin, can actualy turn volume up without affecting my desktop theme sounds! - February 2, 2002 by The Skin Hacker

Decent plug-in that provides moderate amount of sound processing - This is a very handy plug-in for normalizing the sound only slightly, as opposed to flattening it out with a complete normalization. It also adds a little width to the sound. I've used the Arboretum Realizer and DFX plug-ins, with this one stacked in between, for a long time. It seems to compensate for the extreme and frequent dynamic changes that the Realizer creates. BTW, to minimize the interface, double-click on the bottom, right corner. - January 6, 2002 by Aaron Gasaway

Nice... - I've used this plug in for quite a while. Getting it set initially is tricky, but after you get it the way you like it, you never have to revisit it again. I have the output going through my home stereo and the ambiance it provides to the room is amazing. Definitely the best one I have tried. Drawbacks: it isn't skinnable and it won't lock onto the other Winamp windows but it does minimize if you minimize winamp. - November 1, 2001 by Michael Motal

Not bad - I've tried this one befroe and while it is not bad it is not very good either. - August 22, 2001 by Nicholas Lee

documentation? - Well, I just downloaded it and it sounds OK, but there isn't the tiniest bit of documentation or tool tips or anything, and the website that appears when you click the "Configure" button in the Plugins window (altern.org/zu) is dead. I'll give it a provisional 4 stars for now -- I'm trying it back to back with Rocksteady for a while to see which I like better. - August 20, 2001 by Derrick Pohl

Sounds GREAT love the GUI - I love the GUI. I like the way it adds limiters and gates. As a professional DJ, I hate it when sound from my PC is unbalanced. Now, this plugin does what my thousands of dollars worht of gates and limiters do! Great GUI, and all you have to do is double click to minimize. Thanks for such a great one! - August 4, 2001 by Tristan Milnthorp

Boo. - for people who have nothing special hooked up to thier computer, this will not do much for you. But, on the other hand, if you have a nice setup, like the car audio tweeters and subs i have, this is excellent, makes for just the right amount of tweakin'. - August 3, 2001 by Ben Paquette

Wide & Dynamix - A wonderful Winamp plug-in. It has replaced 3 other plug-ins. You need to play around a little to find the settings you need - then forget it! It's amazing at what it does to enhance and maintain the music volume level. I wish I could hide the minimized bar. But I'll take put up with that for what this pulg-in does with Winamp MP3 music. Thanks for a GREAT plug-in! - July 18, 2001 by Jack Adair

Up & Down knobs - As far as I can tell, the up and down knobs are rates not levels. The up knob determines how fast it will turn the volume up and the down knob is how fast it will turn the volume down. CCW is fastest, CW is quickest. This is a pretty good compressor (all I wanted it for) even for classical music, seemingly better than the RockSteady plugin. - July 13, 2001 by Aaron Eppolito

Best sounding compressor/limiter function - Excellent multi-pupose DSP. Great knob-and-meter analogue interface. Plenty of settings to keep you knob twiddling for weeks. Best sounding compressor/limiter function, among others. The author says he doesn't like the "Life" effect, but I did. Stacks well with other DSPs. Only drawback: you can't shut off the compressor. - June 15, 2001 by Kenneth Oransky

Obviously the other users never double-clicked the - title bar section of the plug - works great when nothing else is truly freeware - downloaded a year ago - maybe i will check to see if this version is an update. - May 28, 2001 by Steve Beer

Okay sound, won't hide interface - I was able to get some pretty decent sound, but there was no way of hiding the interface. This means that a large interface won't disappear and is in the way. It is free which is nice. - May 26, 2001 by Kim W

very useful plugin - This works great, fixes a common problem. The only update I would like to see is the option to close or minimize the window once the controls are set. I would like to be able to set it, close or hide it, and continue to use winamp. Very stable, it's good. I figured it out, but a better explanation of how to use it would help some people I'm sure. - May 24, 2001 by Don Hoffman

Franky A. - Just saved me from the worst nightmare-a broken soundcard, and a unsensible visulization.Without this plugin, i coudn-t see any visualization 'cause my mp3 are crappy(i made them myself). Thanxs a lot - May 21, 2001 by Francisco Aguilar

JP, read this - As far as I can tell, the Dynamic is a "normalizer" which attempts to make all the music the same volume. The "up" and the "down" knobs are for how far you want it to turn the music up or down trying to acheive a "normal" (read: constant, non-changing) volume. This helps avoid turning your system up or down from one song (or part of a song!) to another. Watch the needles, the one on the left is the input volume, and the one on the right is how much it's turning it up or down. Have fun JP. - May 11, 2001 by Ronald Bradford

Yes, you can minimize it!!! - You can minimize it, just double-click somewhere else than in a control and there you have!!! But can someone explain to me how do you get the Dynamyc-Up-Down thing to work? - May 10, 2001 by J P

Wide & Dynamix - Good but window gets in way, won't minimize - April 20, 2001 by James Burgess
