Lame output plugin (no pun intended)Quick and simple to get running with good info in that installer to let you know what's needed, etc
Does exactly as it says and is very configurable so you can use whatever lame settings that you want to use. Solid piece of work.

Usefull - I have Lame mp3 File Output 1.6.4, but I can't find that version here (latest stable) for some reason unknown. I was glad that I could in a easy way, transcode, the files that was in my playlist. In Audiograbber, the mp3 have to be 44.1 khz, in order to be transcoded. But that was not a problem here, with a lower khz. F.eks. 11 khz.But the downside of this plugin, is that with VBR you can only go down to 8 kbps instead of 0 (usefull for silence parts), and the maximum is 320 kbps. In other programs, the VBR settings is 0-infinity.Maybe, I have done something wrong. But I'm not sure.Just my thought. - December 25, 2007 by Krusty The Clown
Awesome - It works wonderfully! Plug-in does what it's supposed to and it's easy to configure. - December 1, 2007 by Lyndsey Mosley
Doesn't work right and causes errors. - This plug-in never works properly. My settings never get saved. Each time I load the plug-in on each winamp session, I always have to input the settings again as they are right back to the initial ones each time. Also, I get error messages a bit when I try to encode, and I have to restart Winamp each time. These issues happened on my old computer (w/ Win 2000 Pro), and they also happen on my new one (w/ Win XP Pro). - July 22, 2007 by Robby Coker
Works Great! - Right "out of the box" everything worked without a hitch and I can now encode streaming audio or anything else running through Winamp directly to an mp3 file. I am using this in conjunction with the "Multiple Output Plugin" so that I can listen to streams at the same time without a hitch. Great plug-in! - July 10, 2007 by C M
why so old? - Why does winamp carrie such an old buggy version? 1.62 is broken. If you attempt to convert a .wav without first "converting" an .mp3 it will crash winamp. Search the internet and get the latest version, not the one winamp has here. - May 11, 2007 by darwins Gate
Some Problems resolved - I have found that most of my, ie. (Your) probelms with this plugin were resolved by downloading the latest version of this plugin from Free-Codecs.com (1.6.4) under the selected subject "winamp". Next, after many hrs of configureing and tryiing it would appear that this plugin is designed not to work with Winamp's protected material ie. (XM radio). You can get it to work by playing around and catching the combinations of this output and Directout plugin but not worth the time as RealRecorder will do the job very easly and with high quality. Last, you do need to have another output plugin running as primary to hear the audio, as this plugin directs the audio to the designated folder. Last, GET the Multioutput plugin to make things easier for output plugin configuration. - February 27, 2007 by Glen Humphrey
Good plugin!!! - This plugin is great, since i don't know how to use LAME in the ordinary way. The only bad things I have denoted so far, is that 1) It uses all of the system cpu. It will take you half a minute only to swap between two open windows. 2) It changes the filenames for many of your files. The output file will have the name ARTIST - SONG.mp3, no matter what the original file was called. Is it possible to change these two things manually or in the properties or something? - February 20, 2007 by Kristofer Krus
LAME - Je ne parviens pas à créer des fichiers MP3 à partir de Radios écoutées sur le web. - December 14, 2006 by Francois CHARPENTIER
KICK ASS OUT PLUGIN- just 1 bug - KICK ASS PLUGIN FEW OF THEM COMPLAINED THAT THEY CAN NOT LISTEN WHILE CONVERTING WELL THE SOLUTION IS INSTALL THE MULTI OUT PLUGIN TO HAVE 2 OUTPUT CHANNELS 1 FOR LAME ENCODER AND THE OTHER FOR WAVE OUT OR DIRECT OUT BUT I HAVE ONE PROBLEM WHEN I AM RECORDING A RADIO STATION FROM SHOUTCAST OR SOMETHING ELSE LAME SIMPLY DOES NOT SPLIT THE MP3's , IT BUNDLES EVERYTHING INTO ONE MP3!! SIMPLY NOT GOOD.. BUT IT DOES SPLIT NICELY WHEN PLAYING FROM .aac files or some other format files HELL PLEASE SET UP A FORUM FOR out_lame plugin THE SOURCE FORGE PAGE FOR out_lame does not have one - December 8, 2006 by roshan pv
How does it work? - I downloaded and installed it but I don't know what to do now. I have Winamp 5.24 Thanks! - July 11, 2006 by Javier Martin
Simple - I\'ve been using versions of this plugin for, oh, 5 or 6 years. It does just what it says. It nabs the information from Winamp and uses it for the ID3 tags and spits out an mp3 in the directory of your choice. It can be a slight headache because it doesnt put track numbers in the file name. Be aware of this if you\'re planning to rip cd\'s with it. - May 5, 2006 by Fangul Crescent
No sound when rec. internet radio - I can not hear what I am recording from internet radio. I think that this plugin is only for converting your existing music to mp3. - April 30, 2006 by Sasha Erceg
Installation Problems - I have installed the the LAME plug-in because I am interested to convert .ra files to .mp3. However, without Tara plug-in (Tara_v1.0.3b.exe) is not possible to run the .ra files in winamp. However, it seems that is not enough. I have te impression, after several trials, that this plug-in have some problems in the find the Lame DLL. The DLL adress is not well saved. I believe that I am doing something wrong because I didn't see anyone with such kind of problems. If someone could advise me I will be very greatful. AS - March 19, 2006 by Agusti Sin
Zero Instruction - Is it so hard to explain what "Xing/Lame Frame" or "Bit Reservoir" do? And what does the "Preset" drop box do? It doesn't change any of the settings! - March 1, 2006 by Ed K
Not what I was looking for ... - I cannot hear the music playing! :-(( - October 11, 2005 by Lode Vlayen
useful for those with an mp3 player - Well it works quite good, specially useful for those who have an mp3 player which doesn't play aac, wma, ogg vorbis or so. Now you can easily convert it to mp3 without having to make a wav file of it first. Excellent! - September 3, 2005 by Sleepwalker Designs
great thanks - very simple do everything u need convert anything your winamp plays works on winamp 2.9full - August 3, 2005 by Zivo Feldman
Great plug-in! - I don't understand at ALL what a Constand BR or Variable BR is. I don't know what any of these settings do, except for "Output Directory". However, I copied the settings shown on the little preview picture to your left, and it works perfectly. I put one of my own CDs in, and I can make MP3 files (if any of you happen to have a CD by a little-known guy named Paul Grant... me... feel free to do the same. I *want* my music to get out there! Screw copyright laws. They're for greedy people) whenever I want. For one of the guys that posted a comment before, you're right. You can't hear the audio while you're doing this, but it works anyway. It even takes a little longer than it would normally take to play the track. But it works. No worries. Thanks a lot for this great plug-in. Keep up the great work! - August 3, 2005 by Paul Grant
It doesn't save sattings - Very nice and cosy, but it won't save my settings. Who knows why? Maybe it's because of some conflict with my other plug-ins (I use two to three stacked DSPs when recording). It goes on my nerves to set all required parameters each time I use it, otherwise it's quite cool. - July 11, 2005 by Dragan Milunovic
I can't get it to work - It may be because I am new to win amp, but I can no get this P.I. to work. I am shure it is my falt. If I could get so help that would be great - July 8, 2005 by Kevin Pagano
*sigh* - some documentation would be nice. I mean besides version history and stuff. This may put me in the "too stupid to pay any attention to" category, but how do you work this thing. So far all it does is prevent audio from comming out of my speakers. However, recording radio stations and grabbing all the apropriate tags (if i understand right) does sound pretty cool. - July 4, 2005 by Gilgad Drumheller
Excellent - I like this plugin, the first one I found to rip music streams stright off of net radio. I've been looking for a way to sync digitallyimported.com to my mp3 player, since their way of doing it does not support my model mp3 player. With this I download the stream, cut what I want into new files, and have them for whenever I want. Now if only there was one that would let me listen at the same time, instead of having to have two Winamps open at the same time - April 17, 2005 by JonThomas Anderson
Just what I was looking for - This plug-in is just what I was looking for to convert *.wma to *.mp3. Keep it up fellas. - March 16, 2005 by Anil Paragh
Jammin' - Great Plugin. Allows me to directly rip from my streams. Thumbs Up! - March 9, 2005 by john inman
I'm not sure - My computer locked up when I turned this one on although the mp3's are perfect I had to use control alt delete to regain control of my system. - March 4, 2005 by Scott Dempsey
hangs winamp - hangs winamp if u try to use it with plugin combi Tara Audi Video / Output Stacker this u would use to record and listen to real media files and streams - January 29, 2005 by leo bone
Long live out_lame - I wrote the original version, but since I don't have time to work on it anymore Mike proposed to keep on working with it. I wish this project the best :D - January 7, 2005 by Steve Lhomme
Trouble with flac - It seems to have trouble with flac files; it starts, goes to 44 seconds, and starts over, reppeatedly. If you let it go long enough it will eventually generate the mp3 file... out_lame.dl 1.61 does this also. The flac file was made with flac frontend, not with your new plugin. Works great with wav files. Small irritation, thanks for supporting flac and taking the time to write the plugins. - December 26, 2004 by Larry Short
