Hydra ML - Zero configuration music sharing

Staff review

Very useful tool for sharing music libraries over a LAN

This is a very functional tool for sharing media libraries over a LAN. Simply install the two Hydra .dll files to each computer's Winamp/Plugins directory, restart all instances of Winamp, then click on 'Remote Media' in the Winamp Library window. You then will be able to see all remote Winamp Library lists without any additional configuration or hassle. Very simple and straightforward. Note, this does not work over the internet, only for local networks.

Hangs winamp - The only thing this plugin does under 5.09 is crashing. I hope you'll fix it soon because it seams a very interesting plugin. - July 18, 2005 by reflecs modes

Works great - This is a very useful plugin. Finally I can easily access my music collection on my server machine from my laptop. If you have a large music collection that needs scanned at start-up then it might take a while for the remote playlist to show up. - May 15, 2005 by Laurent K

Still Broken - Well, the plug's still no good after three releases, so I'm abandoning hope for the author fixing it. I'd recommend Wombat Share instead. It actaully works. - March 13, 2004 by Clay Barnes

Good concept - Excellent concept - something that iTunes does very well that WinAMp will benefit greatly from. Sadly it hangs my 5.02 so can't actually test it... - March 7, 2004 by Ben Ward

Still broken - Just tried the last update from 29-JAN-04, and still hanging my winamp 5.01. - January 30, 2004 by Nicolas AVERSENG

Still broken - Plug still kills my copy of WA5.01 (just like RC8). Hoping for a fix soon... but fabulous idea! - January 27, 2004 by Clay Barnes

Great idea, but hangs winamp 5.01 - This is the plugin i have been looking for. Unfortunately, after installing it, winamp 5.01 is hanging on startup (taking 100% CPU)... Waiting for a fix in order to confirm the 4 stars or maybe go to 5 !! - January 23, 2004 by Nicolas AVERSENG

Great idea, Winamp5 problems - Unfortunately, despite wide compatibility with winamp2 plug-ins Winamp5 (rc8) died completely when this plug-in was installed. Nothing a quick deletion of the .dll's wouldn't fix, but still... disappointing. Also, the install is simple, but would benefit enormously from delivery system incorporated by other plug-ins where the plug is sent to the Winamp directory without requiring browsing for the dir. Great idea nonetheless. One more idea: make it iTunes compatible. Then it would be the absolute best! I'll blindly give it 4 stars 'cause I can't tell if it works, but it's still a great idea. - November 22, 2003 by Clay Barnes
