Winamp KeyController v4

Featured Plugin, March 20, 2003.

Assign system wide hotkeys to control Winamp, should work when playing games also. Over 70 commands supported... Some other features included now are "Resume Winamp state" and "Save Winamp data (playlist and eq)" at specified time interval. (Useful to prevent loosing the playlist or eq data if Winamp or Windows has a tendency to crash...).New for this version is the support for windows keys and some some new commands for controlling the AlbumList plug-in.

Winamp KeyController v4 - Featured Plugin, March 20, 2003.

Staff review

The ultimate hotkey plugin

This one has it all. A very clean and easy to use interface that allows you to assign your own key combos to pretty much every available feature in Winamp. Also includes a handy resume play on startup feature, which can be configured to pick right up where you last left off mid song, or to start up at the beginning of the last song played. Can also be configured to automatially save EQ and Playlist data. Look no further for a hotkey plugin, this one has you covered.

The Only Plug-in I Use - With all due respect to the reviewer, Steve Monroe, but he has no idea what he is writing about. Yes, there is now an annoying banner at the top of the configuration window but the configuration window does not startup each time Winamp does. You can reach the configuration window for [Key]Controller in Winamp by going to Options -> Preferences -> Plug-ins -> General Purpose -> Winamp [Key]Controller. I am currently using v4.04 on Winamp v2.95. The author seems to have dropped off the face of the earth (His websites are missing and the redirects lead to blank pages) but the program still works great! - July 23, 2006 by Derek Muenzel

Misleading...would give 0 stars if I could. - The preview image doesn't show you the banner which asks if you want to get rid of the annoying thing to go to a website...one that didn't exist when I tried. Also, nothing is mentioned about the plugin not showing up in Winamp preferences...it only popups up a window each time you start Winamp, so uninstalling is a slight annoyance. Only time you can configure it is when Winamp starts, unless you can make a hotkey to popup this it's dialog. Anyway, I'm not very impressed. - June 4, 2006 by Steve Monroe

Close to perfect - Not being satisfied with the built-in hotkeys, I finally stumbled upon this little gem of a plug-in. Assigning short cuts is very easy and straight forward, since the commands are presented in menus. The only command I'm missing so far is Toggle Media Library visibility, but the rest of the list is pretty much exhaustive. Another nice touch is for one the ability to resume Winamp, plus to autosave the playlist and EQ in regular intervals. So you are actually getting three plug-ins rolled into one :)! - April 10, 2006 by Annika Hansen

wake me - Using the PC as an alarm clock, this plug-in is greate. Starts playing the music i want (last listened to) when my PC turn on at a scheduled time. :) Its what i DLed it for, but after trying the hotkeys. . . this is good work man! - March 7, 2006 by Cloud Strife

THIS IS AWESOME - It doesnt matter what you are doing- you still have power over winamp - its all i ever use now to play and skip tracks, etc. Z,X,C,V and B are out the window. - December 6, 2003 by Rue Davies

A Must - This has become, instantly, my favorite plug-in. I NEED to have my hotkeys! :-) Well done. - November 3, 2003 by David Hirsh

Definitely the best - I've used pretty much every hotkey plug out there. This is definitely the best. It has a slick interface and is very easy to use. Can't find anything wrong with it. - October 17, 2003 by Will Fuller

Really excellent. - That's.. amazing. - September 28, 2003 by AKX -

The hotkey-plugin to end all hotkey-plugins!!! - After having been through all the other hotkey plugins on this site, I finally tried this one out. And I won't be trying any more. Not only does this plugin cover absolutely ANY function you might want (and have a pretty sweet interface), but it actually allowed me to uninstall the "Resumer" plugin I was running before. Really nice work!!! - June 22, 2003 by sensei sensei

It's good - Nice and useful. Try it. - June 8, 2003 by Kasper Guldmann

Improvement - Is it possible for the next update to bind gamepad button to winamp? leaving the keyboard for video games ^_^ - April 23, 2003 by Intrus Musashi

yum - maybe not at first glance, but when I started using it I realized how much I love the interface of this program... the hotkeys are sorted intelligently in menus for a change, and I really like the automatic saving of the playlist or eq. I would give it five, but here's a couple of wishes first: 1) Have a menu for local shortcuts too, not just system wide shortcuts. As much as I like this program I only use a very few shortcuts (Logic Audio hogs them all). 2) If you implement suggestion #1, then the only system shortcut a person may even want is FOCUS... That's because after they push a single key (who want's to remember and then stretch their fingers in awkward positions [besides us guitarists and pianists] anyways?), Winamp then has focus and the user can push another SINGLE key to activate the various functions, all without worrying about his system-wide shortcuts conflicting with another app. Plus, it becomes alot easier to remember and easier to hit (because we're only talking about single-key shortcuts here, other than maybe the system-wide FOCUS one). Oh, the FOCUS shortcut doesn't need to bring winamp into visual focus, especially restoring it if it was already minimized, though I guess some people would like a way to know when winamp has focus and when it doesn't. 3) Just an addendum to the last... Winamp would LOSE focus whenever someone clicked their mouse, again hit the focus shortcut, etc... that way everything would be very fluid. The plug-in "The Ultimate Hotkeyz Plugin" (something like that) by Deathwish I think shows that you can do pretty much just that... only that plugin doesn't work on my computer :P That plugin isn't arranged as intelligently either, doesn't have the auto-save function, nor does it offer as many hotkey shortcuts (though it does offer FOCUS and it offers System AND Local shortcuts. Hope this helps, love your program Mikael, can't wait to give ya five starz!!! - March 18, 2003 by Ranger Lacy
